‘Orange is the Black’ actress Samira Wiley joins Hulu adaptation
This past year has certainly been a big one for Samira Wiley, who most fans known for her work on “Orange is the New Black.” She’s had a chance to give another knockout performance on the Netflix series, and she is also now getting set to test some new waters. (Warning: There are some spoilers for this past season of the show ahead.)
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Wiley has been cast in the upcoming Hulu series “The Handmaid’s Tale” based on the 1985 Margaret Atwood novel. The logline for this series can be seen below:
“Gilead is ruled by a twisted religious fundamentalism that treats women as property of the state. As one of the few remaining fertile women, Offred is a handmaid in the Commander’s household, one of the caste of women forced into sexual servitude as a last desperate attempt to repopulate a devastated world.”
Wiley will play a close friend and fellow trainee to the Offred character. This casting comes on the heels of the Poussey character being killed off on “Orange is the New Black,” a move that was incredibly sad for a number of different reasons. For one, you’re losing an excellent character, and you are losing her in a way that is incredibly depressing. Luckily, we do think that this will be another chance for Wiley to show her impressive arsenal of skills.
