MTV Fandom Awards 2016: ‘The 100,’ ‘Mr. Robot,’ ‘The Walking Dead,’ ‘The X-Files’ score nominations
The MTV Fandom Awards are more or less just that: A celebration of fandoms. It’s a chance for us to celebrate some of the various shows and events that took place over the course of the past year, and ultimately, we feel like it’ll make for a rather fun broadcast when it is held on July 21 from San Diego Comic-Con. The show itself will air on July 24.
Below, you can see some of the TV-related nominees, along with of course a brief take on them.
BEST NEW FANDOM OF THE YEAR
Hamilton
Jessica Jones
Mr. Robot
Scream
Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments
Suicide Squad
It feels like “Scream” is pure MTV pandering, and we have no idea why “Suicide Squad” is nominated when the movie isn’t even out yet. “Hamilton” to us seems like the clear winner, and we say that even as a TV guy.
FAN FREAK OUT OF THE YEAR
Game of Thrones — Resurrection of Jon Snow
Mr. Robot – Mr. Robot revealed
The Walking Dead – Glenn’s Death Scare
Pretty Little Liars – Spencer and Caleb Hook Up
The 100 – RIP Lexa
Star Wars: The Force Awakens – Death of a Legend
Our feeling is that Lexa’s death was EASILY the one that stirred the most discussion online … though we have to say it’s interesting that MTV spoils that, but is still terrified to mention who dies in “Star Wars.”
ANIMATION FANDOM OF THE YEAR
Adventure Time
Gravity Falls
Inside Out
Rick and Morty
Steven Universe
Zootopia
“Rick and Morty” is our personal favorite of this group. Then again, we’ve never been an “Adventure Time” guy.
BEST REVIVAL FANDOM OF THE YEAR
Baywatch (Series) / Baywatch (Film)
Gilmore Girls / Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life
Harry Potter / Harry Potter and the Cursed Child and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
High School Musical / High School Musical 4: Wild and Knights
Full House / Fuller House
The X-Files
Is there a real favorite here? It’s the hardest to figure out, since “Harry Potter” probably is the biggest; yet, we think that “The X-Files” has probably had the biggest pop-culture impact, though that may be in part due to “Fantastic Beasts” not even being released yet.
