‘Game of Thrones’ season 6, episode 9: Who could die in ‘Battle of the Bastards’?

Game of Thrones -

The sixth season of “Game of Thrones” is airing its most important episode of the season (at least in our mind) this Sunday courtesy of “Battle of the Bastards,” and we of course are spending much of our time at present wondering the answer to one all-important question: Who are we losing next? We’ve grown so accustomed to seeing dead characters go that we just about expect it at this point, and there are a laundry list of people who could end up being buried / not revived by Melisandre at hour’s end.

For now, here is our short list of folks who we expect to be involved in the battle in some shape or form.

We’re extremely worried about…

Ramsay Bolton – Technically, we should say that we’d be thrilled if he dies, and the odds certainly feel like that could happen. Sure, this is a world where the good do not always win, but at the same time, we haven’t really gotten a sense that he is the best war strategist and knows how to inspire an army. Therefore, this may not work well for him.

Rickon Stark – We’ve barely seen him, so with that in mind, will anyone really care if he dies? It’s a way for Dan Weiss and David Benioff to give you a Stark death without losing a beloved character in the process.

Wun Wun the Giant – he’s at the battle, he’s a huge asset … but he’s also huge. He’s the easiest target in the world for Ramsay’s army.

We’re slightly worried about…

Tormund Giantsbane – He’s the most well-known Wildling on the show, but we’re not sure what his purpose would be if Winterfell is retaken … though we do like the idea of him and Brienne together.

Davos – He’s not the most spry warrior, and that of course has us concerned. Also, how in the world is he going to react when he learns that Melisandre had a role to play in the death of Shireen? The fly-off-the-handle potential is large here.

Pod – Brienne is someone the audience loves; other than his talents in the bedroom, is there really anything that significant about Pod as a character? We don’t think so.

Melisandre – We feel like in some ways her arc is complete. She went from claiming to knowing all to knowing nothing to then getting redemption with Jon Snow. If she dies, there is nothing else for her to do.

We’re not too worried about…

Sansa – Maybe we are naive to think that she’s going to be fine, but we just cannot envision a scenario where we lose this character from the cast right when she is finding her voice. It’d be too sad, even for this show.

Jon Snow – They’ve already done that. No reason to do it again just yet.

Littlefinger – He could be bringing the Knights of the Vale to Winterfell, if many theories are correct. We just don’t see him going into the front lines with them.
