‘The Fosters’ season 4, episode 1 preview: How Mariana handles a crisis
We certainly hope that you are prepared for Monday night’s new episode of “The Fosters” on Freeform, and for many reasons … starting of course with the sole fact that this may be one of the most harrowing, emotional installments of the show that has ever been created. There is a potential school shooting storyline in here as Nick, after realizing that Mariana had shared a romantic moment with Mat, decides to bring a gun to school. The ramifications for this are enormous, and for Mariana in particular many of them are amplified by just how little of an opportunity she gets to communicate during the process of the police taking care of the situation.
In previewing the reactions to the Nick crisis to TVLine, executive producer Bradley Bredeweg had the following message to pass along:
“All of them are very affected by it, but at the center of this is Mariana. She’s faced with Nick and the struggles that they’ve been going through. She’s the one that is left out of the classroom. She’s the one that has been locked out, and that’s part of the protocol. Once you lock the door to your classroom, you are not to open it for anyone until a SWAT team or a member of the police force arrive. So it is a very scary situation for Mariana, because she has no one. She is truly locked out during the lockdown.”
Regardless of what happens, we have to feel like Mariana will never be the same again. How can she be trusting, and know that her actions won’t be met with any other sort of extreme reactions? We definitely imagine that this is going to take a toll on her, and we will have to see precisely what that toll is over the course of the coming hours this season.
