‘Game of Thrones’ season 6, episode 9: HBO not releasing ‘Battle of the Bastards’ synopsis

LogoClearly, HBO is really trying now to play up the hyper-secrecy angle when it comes to “Game of Thrones” and their final two episodes of the season. How else would you explain what they’ve got going on at present?

Today, the network confirmed the titles of their final installments in “Battle of the Bastards” and “The Winds of Winter.” However, in their press release they opted to not share anything in regards to an actual synopsis containing details of what to expect. This is all it said under the two titles and the airdates across multiple networks: “Written by David Benioff & D. B. Weiss; directed by Miguel Sapochnik.” It’s great to see Sapochnik (who directed the epic “Hardhome” last season) get a chance to tell two stories at the end of the season, but that is all we can say for now.

As for why in the world HBO is taking things to this level, it’s obviously to prevent there from being some spoilers out there. However, at the same exact time is this a little bit overkill? We cannot imagine in a million years these episodes being so full of shockers and twists that you couldn’t just write down a few words to give us something to talk about.

Ultimately, in the end we really shouldn’t be too surprised about this, given the network’s history this season. This included also not providing any screener to members of the press in advance of the season.
