NBC’s ‘The Voice’ champion Alisan Porter, former winner Cassadee Pope join July 4 special
What is it about patriotic events and former singing-show contestants? It’s a little odd, but whether it is at the White House, at Memorial Day concerts, or at 4th of July specials, we tend to see alumni from “The Voice,” “American Idol,” and other shows in the genre more than anywhere else.
The latest bit of evidence of this comes in learning about the roster for the upcoming “A Capitol 4th” special airing on PBS this Independence Day! Per Mjsbigblog, reigning “The Voice” champion Alisan Porter will be performing the National Anthem during the special, and will be joined by former champion Cassadee Pope as a performer on the night. Also, “America’s Got Talent” standout Jackie Evancho will be performing, as will “Glee” alum Amber Riley. Tom Bergeron, best known for “Dancing with the Stars” (and for being one of the best hosts ever in our mind) will preside over the festivities.
Aside from these familiar-from-TV names, Kenny Loggins, Smokey Robinson, and Gavin DeGraw are also going to take part in the special. July 4 is not necessarily a day with a huge array of different specials, but there are a few worthy ones out there for those of you looking to stay in rather than bear witness to a heck of a lot of fireworks outside. We’ll likely have more on some of these when we get a little bit closer to them airing, since we’re still almost a month away.
The new season of “The Voice” will premiere on NBC this fall.
