‘Wayward Pines’ season 2, episode 3 review: Pam faces off with Jason
What happens when you have created a monster? That is something that on Wednesday night’s new episode of “Wayward Pines,” when Pam started to open her eyes even more so to the true nature of Jason. We learned about his past, his motives, and also somehow how he was distorted into becoming the leader that he now is.
Unfortunately for Pam, her revelations and her moves to fix the town came a little bit too late. Just because this show has not killed off enough people so far in season 2, Pam was killed by Jason’s own hands out in the woods. The moment we went out there, we knew bad things were happening … mostly because that’s always the case with this show.
Unfortunately, we see what happened to Pam more as a function of the show’s continued efforts to reboot itself in this season. The original characters are all going away, and there may be a logistical challenge in that. Also, we assume that the show wants this to be Theo’s story, and these first episodes are setting up the situation where he could be called upon to really stop Jason … and almost anyone else who is starting to get a little too comfortable with the idea of figuring out the Abbies.
We are going to admit that this was the best episode of season 2 so far, mostly because we did get to understand the villain more, and we also had the first death we’d really classify as heartbreaking this season. At the same time, the show’s mass exodus of season 1 characters is distressing, and we’ve yet to see a real justification for bringing the show back just yet. Grade: B-.
