Teen Choice Awards 2016: Will Maia Mitchell, Ashley Benson, or Troian Bellisario win Drama Actress?
Over the course of the past several years, “Pretty Little Liars” has done very well at the Teen Choice Awards, and the same goes for many of its cast members. With that said, there is a little bit more drama than usual when it comes to the category of Choice TV: Drama Actress this time around. Last year, the winner was Lucy Hale, and she is not among the women nominated this time. Oddly, she and Shay Mitchell (last year’s nominees from the show) are off the list, and in their place are the other two female leads from the series.
Will one of them win, or face an upset that shakes things up? We’ve got our entirely take on the 2016 field below.
The nominees
Ashley Benson – “Pretty Little Liars”
Jennifer Lopez – “Shades of Blue”
Kerry Washington – “Scandal”
Maia Mitchell – “The Fosters”
Taraji P. Henson – “Empire”
Troian Bellisario – “Pretty Little Liars”
Who will win – Of this group, it’s hard to really say given that both Benson and Bellisario have huge audiences … and we have to think that they are going to be the favorites. (Lopez was probably nominated mostly on star power, and we don’t really think that “Scandal” or “Empire” are necessarily “teen” shows.) We’re going to say Troian here, but we really do think that it’s a total toss-up at this point.
Who should win – How about Maia Mitchell? We think “The Fosters” had a heck of a powerful, emotional season 3, and she was at the center of much of the drama. Callie experienced raw, painful things, and we think that her work (and much of the work that this show does as a whole) often goes under-appreciated.
