As ‘Castle’ season 9 renewal decision looms, Nathan Fillion secures new deal
It is starting to appear as though Friday is really going to be judgment day when it comes to whether or not “Castle” will return for a ninth season on the air, and while nothing has been secured just yet, it does appear as though a renewal is closer to happening than previous.
As first reported by Deadline, Nathan Fillion has secured a deal that would allow him to return for potentially a shortened final season of the show, with the sad news being that this would be without Stana Katic. The report also mentions that Jon Huertas and Seamus Dever are also set to return for another go.
With all of this being said, there are still some other assorted issues to work through, and that includes making the budget set and figuring our precisely if ABC for certain wants to make the move. The reason that they are setting the deadline for tomorrow is because this is the latest that the show can determine how they want to end the eighth season; this in turn will determine whether or not a ninth season is possible.
There are still two more episodes of the show to go, and regardless of what happens, these will be the last ones for Katic in the cast. Given how integral the Kate Beckett character was to the series’ success, it is still extremely hard to fathom the show without her. Rest assured that one way or another, we will have some further news on this subject as soon as it becomes available.

I guess it all all done, and it has been renewed, good luck ABC Corp. Looks like everyone stays, but the two women that left, one fired, one quit. Show runner Winter stated they are going to open
with a clean Slate For Castle 2.1, I guess that was just another lie, he and Hawley are still going to be steering the ship around all those ice bergs. ABC must not have looked at the great job they did this season. As big of a supporter that ABC is for Mrs Clinton ,woman rights equal pay and anti bullying. You wonder what all the sponsors of Castle think about women right? They could not find enough money to pay Stana and let the bully control season 9. As Beckett told Castle at the end of season 1 episode 1 you never know what you are missing. Do you ABC?

Wow, you’re all over the place here. Falling ratings equal falling revenue, that is a fact and that leads to smaller budgets. The studio is in the business to make money. When it’s productions can’t meet those
needs they are terminated.

Many are overlooking the events leading to the terminations Paul Lee the head of programming at the time gave SK a very lucrative contract meeting her demands . ABC it now seems wasn’t at all pleased with that settlement . The result was the sudden firing of Paul Lee and placing someone with the mandate to meet their budget . What followed was the firing of SK without negotiating indicating the studio was still unhappy about the contract she was given when revenues had dropped by half. If S9 is green lighted it will be exploretory to see if it will fly.

You are correct, and the fact that Katic spurned the regular 2 year contract for a 1 year only deal clearly signaled her intent at the time to make this a one-and-done regardless. The fact that this contract included her missing the first 2 weeks of shooting and a week later in the season for pre-contracted deals required the showrunners/writers to significantly alter scripts and desired set-up for the season, not to mention the hassle I imagine to re-negotiate Fillion’s and the rest of cast’s contracts back to 1 year and elevating Fillion to Producer equal to Katics demands. Paul Lee loved her–C. Dunguy, not so much.

The fact that ABC forsaw the uproar SK’s firing would cause and chose to do so regardless speaks volumes.

If ABC renews Castle, may it turn out to be the stupidest decision that they have ever made. After the last show with Stana, I will not watch any new Castle shows or spin offs or anything that any of the traitorous actors that stay with the show are ever on and Will NOT WATCH ANYTHING ON ABC unless Stana is on it. Shame on ABC for doing this and signing again the unnamed actor who the show was never really about to begin with. ABC has acted disgracefully in this matter particularly to ALL WOMEN and CASKETT FANS and may all of their future ratings tank until the people who made this decision are no longer working for ABC.

Nathan gets a paycheck and Stana doesn’t. Way to go ABC.
