‘The Simpsons’ spoilers: Jay Leno to guest star as himself
Jay Leno has not been on network TV too much these days, but it seems as though he does have a new venue now (albeit in animated form): “The Simpsons.”
According to Entertainment Weekly, the former “Tonight Show” host is going to guest-star on the upcoming May 8 episode as himself, and is going to end up wanting to purchase an antique car that Homer finds underneath a pile of garbage. In speaking out further about this storyline to the website, executive producer Al Jean passed along the following message:
“We just said, ‘He’s the one guy that this plot would make sense for.’ There is no one who is simultaneously as funny and who knows more about cars than Jay Leno.”
This is not Leno’s first appearance on the show, even if it is his first in a while. He notably appeared in “The Last Temptation of Krust,” and while the cartoon version of him also showed up in another episode in “Judge Me Tender,” he did not actually voice himself then. Still, we imagine that the show could want to go back to Leno well many more times in the future, provided that they have the right story for him. Sure, he may be somewhat polarizing as a comic, but he is one of the more notable names out there when it comes to talk-show icons. Leno joins a voice cast this year that includes George Takei, Kristen Bell, much of the cast of HBO’s “Girls,” and many others.
