NBC’s ‘The Voice’ begins with Prince tribute; Pharrell Williams, Adam Levine, more share memories
While several days have passed now since the passing away of Prince, “The Voice” chose the proper way to tribute the artist with a quiet, subtle introduction where the entire set was bathed in purple light.
From there, Carson Daly called on the coaches to share some of their favorite memories of Prince, and explain the impact that he had on music. Christina Aguilera shared what he meant for artists in terms of their creativity and rights as performers, while Pharrell Williams talked about what it was like growing up listening to “Purple Rain,” and the impact it had on his childhood. Blake Shelton merely spoke about how the music would influence his mood, while Adam Levine commented on the music and more.
One thing that we are pleased that the show chose not to do is have some of the contestants this week perform songs from Prince, since it would have heavily influenced iTunes results and would have been weird for the sake of fairness.
This is far from the first time that NBC itself has paid tribute to Prince in one way or another; over the weekend, “Saturday Night Live” aired a retrospective featuring some of the best performances and moments from Prince during his time on the show. Also, they also aired some memorable sketches that revolved around both his music and his eccentric personality.
As we’ve stated, we continue to send our thoughts and well-wishes to all who loved Prince during this difficult time.
