‘The Good Wife’ season 7: Don’t expect a spin-off (at least right away)

The final season of “The Good Wife” is inching ever closer to an end on CBS, and with that there is of course a temptation to try and see what else this franchise could hold for the network. When you’ve got the prestige of this show, there has to be an interest, right? Sure, the ratings are not fantastic, but it seems like the show makes up for that in other ways.

Unfortunately, there still remains no immediate plan for a spin-off for the show, even if that could change at some point in the future. As star Matt Czuchry (Cary) explained at the Tribeca Film Festival (per Entertainment Weekly), much of the reason for this seems to just be the fact that there hasn’t been a whole lot of distance just yet, and therefore it is hard to even really think about doing something else:

“It’s such a tough question to ask right now because we just finished on Monday … On a personal level, we’re all trying to gain closure on something that we experienced for seven years. With that, we’ve just put in so many hours and so much dedication into the material and there’s been a lot of sacrifice that goes into that. So right now, my brain is trying to wrap itself around, ‘Okay, what kind of closure do I need personally to get to that next place professionally?’ And it’s not a way to avoid the answer. It’s just an honest answer in saying that it takes a lot for us to invest in these characters and invest in this time. It’s going to take an equal amount to decompress and cleanse from that experience.”

We’re sure that at some point, an idea will be discussed; for now, “Good Wife” creators Robert and Michelle King do have some other things to explore, with the upcoming summer series “BrainDead” being fairly high on the list.
