Finale Forecast: What’s the right series finale story for ‘The Good Wife’?
It is terribly sad to think that at this point in one month’s time, “The Good Wife” is going to be off the air, and the story of Alicia Florrick will be complete. This is a series that has certainly brought a lot of joy and entertainment to the table over the years, but the reality remains that at some point, all good things must end.
So while we approach the series finale next month, let’s go ahead and pose the question for our latest Finale Forecast story: How should this story end? Is there an ideal resolution to it, or is this one of those stories that is better off going in some bittersweet direction where not everyone gets what they want? There is a case to be made for almost every variable when you stop for a minute to think about it.
What could happen – Presumably, the court case for Peter Florrick will end with either him imprisoned or with him freed but his reputation in shambles. Alicia could have an opportunity to walk away from this marriage, and have some sort of happiness with Jason Crouse. We do think the complicated nature of her time at Agos, Lockhart, and Lee will also come to a close, and she will figure out whether or not she is a name partner, she remains on board, or she goes somewhere else and tries something new. Alicia will remain a lawyer — that’s her skill — and we feel like the ending will most likely give her a chance to showcase that and prepare for a future in the field.
What should happen – We don’t think Alicia should leave Chicago, though we would like to her trying to start a new firm once more, though maybe this time in an office rather than her home and with a talented team around her like Luca Quinn and Jason. How would she get the money? Maybe the divorce frees up some assets, or she does manage to convince someone else to come over. The biggest thing that should happen is getting to see her in a place where her talents can be used to the fullest. As for some other characters, we’d like to see Eli get something stable and away from Peter, and for Cary to actually go somewhere and do something that makes him happy. We don’t have to have a cookie-cutter “happily ever after” sort of ending, but it is at least nice to presume some people will have a chance.
