TV Quick Hits: ‘Cooper Barrett’ possibly canceled; ‘Masters of Sex’ star on ‘New Girl’; ‘The Catch’ news
“Cooper Barrett’s Guide to Surviving Life” over – Let’s start this edition of TV Quick Hits with what seems to be the final nail in the coffin for the aforementioned Fox series: It definitely looks like this show is not going to be around beyond this spring.
While the comedy is not officially canceled, Variety reports that on April 24, the comedy is being preempted with a repeat of “The Simpsons.” Meanwhile, the entire Fox lineup is being preempted on May 1. The show is airing as planned on April 17, and there’s no word yet on the May 8 airing. Either way, it feels all but assured that “Cooper Barrett” is done on Fox this spring; it has already been moved to an earlier timeslot on Sundays, and its ratings are abysmal.
Want some other news from the day?
“Masters of Sex” star on “New Girl” – Caitlin Fitzgerald, who is best known for playing Libby Masters on the Showtime drama, will be guest starring (per TVLine) on an upcoming episode as a medical-school friend of Sam (David Walton), who has resurfaced in Jess’ life this season. Fitzgerald is ironically the second “Masters of Sex” star to have an important role on “New Girl,” as Lizzy Caplan previously recurred prior to playing Virginia Johnson.
Lesley Nicol on “The Catch” – Now that “Downton Abbey” is over, isn’t it nice to see some of its stars on TV in other forms? Nicol, who played Mrs. Patmore on the ITV series, is going to be on the ABC drama in a recurring role. Unfortunately, that’s all we know for the time being. New episodes of “The Catch” will continue to air on ABC Thursday nights.
