Finale Forecast: How should ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ close the doors on season 12?

Grey's AnatomyGranted, we have to start off this edition of our Finale Forecast series all about “Grey’s Anatomy” with a key admission: We’re still so early in the season that it is hard to really speculate where things are going to go. This show still has many weeks to go, and with that, there could be many shifts, twists, and turns. If you’ve watched this series for more than just a few years (and many of you have), you more than likely know how quickly things can turn on a dime.

Still, we’re going to do our part in this article to look into our metaphorical crystal ball, and figure out a way for season 12 to end that is (hopefully) not incredibly depressing.

What could happen – While we’re not entirely sure that April and Jackson will have their child by the end of the season, we do feel like they will have figured out a better plan for how to care for the kid if they’re not together. There’s still some hope for the two of them, but it’s probably unrealistic for us to think in this universe that they can work through all of their differences in the span of time required for it to happen.

Meanwhile, we feel like Owen and Riggs will have some sort of enormous blowup that eventually changes their relationship, but also many others. Maybe Meredith will stay away from dating for the rest of the season after realizing that she’s not quite ready, and we could also see Bailey face more crises than she ever before since taking on the role as Chief.

What should happen – We know creator Shonda Rhimes likes her happy endings to be both earned and at times bittersweet, and it is with that in mind that we would hope for the show to give us something to actually smile about with a relationship. With that, we think that either Callie / Arizona or April / Jackson should be together by the end of the season. Meanwhile, we’d like to see Meredith have a big achievement in her career as a doctor, and give some of the younger characters an opportunity to question their future at the Grey Sloan Memorial. After all, there are only so many spots available here, and their training will (eventually) be complete.
