‘Once Upon a Time’ season 5, episode 18 spoilers: ‘Ruby Slippers’ brings back Red, Mulan

The fifth season of “Once Upon a Time” has had a lot on its plate as of late in between the Underworld and some of the returning characters, and it may be somewhat easy for some casual fans to forget about some of the promises that were made for a same-sex romance on the show a little bit earlier this season. We were told that it would be happening later this season.

Who knows? Maybe we’re going to get a chance to see this all play out on “Ruby Slippers,” which is the upcoming 18th episode of the season airing on April 17. The synopsis below offers up some more information (by the way, kudos to ABC for releasing this one early — something that they’re not always particularly keen on doing):

“In flashbacks, Ruby and Mulan find themselves in Oz, where they meet Dorothy. After the three witness Zelena’s return to Oz, they look for a way to defeat her once and for all. However, Dorothy mysteriously disappears, and Ruby’s search for her new friend lands her in the Underworld. Reunited with the heroes, Ruby teams up with Emma, Regina and Snow to continue looking for Dorothy.  Meanwhile, Snow and David struggle with not being able to be with their son, Neal, and devise a plan so that one of them can escape the Underworld.”

As for whether or not the romance really sparks in this episode, that we don’t quite know, but Red and Mulan clearly look like they are the two players involved. Also, this episode is important given that these characters have started to remain in the Underworld for a rather long stretch of time, which is going to make some of that guilt that Snow and Charming are feeling stand out even more than it was before.
