‘The X Factor’ UK shockingly loses Cheryl Fernandez-Virsini as judge
Given the public nature of Cheryl Fernandez-Virsini’s big “X Factor” comeback, coupled with her getting an executive-producer credit on the show this past season, this is something that we certainly did not anticipate reporting today. Yet, that does not change the fact that it has indeed happened: The pop star is leaving the ITV series, as she made it official in a statement today.
Specifically, Cheryl cited (no surprise here) her desire to focus on music as the biggest reason for her exit for the time being:
“I have had such an amazing experience being a judge on The X Factor. I have learnt so much and enjoyed nurturing talent but I’ve missed making music and am excited to be recording again.
“I want to thank everybody I have worked with along the way, especially Simon who I love to bits. I hope the show continues to produce stars and I wish them all the best.”
We suppose that this switch-up could pave the way for both Louis Walsh and Sharon Osbourne to return as judge, with the former all but confirmed and with the latter rumored. There are still some roadblocks that stand in her way, but she and Louis are good friends, and Walsh had not always been positive in his comments about Cheryl.
The new season of “The X Factor” won’t begin filming for at least a ways out, so there is still some time for the revolving door that is the judges’ panel to stabilize. We’re going to have some further news all about it in due time, so stay tuned and follow the link here for more scoop.
