Ratings: ‘Empire’ season 2 remains huge; ‘Rosewood,’ ‘Arrow’ surge
What’s this? A primetime ratings report where there is a lot of good news for many of the shows we cover? This is admittedly something that we have not had very often here on the site lately. Most shows do tend to suffer after Daylight Savings Time, but thanks to “Empire,” there are plenty of reasons now for Fox at least to smile.
The good news – The Terence Howard / Taraji P. Henson series returned for the first time in months to an outstanding 4.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which is the show’s best rating since October. We have to admit that our prediction was wrong here; we felt like the buzz for the show was starting to simmer down, and we thought in between that and the long layoff we were going to see a little bit of a drop. Even if the show does now fall a little bit, it’ll still firmly be the #1 drama on network TV … and it won’t even be close.
Even though it airs before “Empire,” the ratings also improved last night for “Rosewood,” as the Morris Chestnut drama improved to a 1.4. We’re not sure just yet if this is enough to earn the show a renewal, but when you look at the pretty-miserable performance for many other Fox series right now, it at least has a chance.
Speaking of surges, “Arrow” recovered nicely from its worst outing of the season to a 0.9. “Chicago PD” also rose to a 1.5.
The bad news – Without Shemar Moore in the cast, “Criminal Minds” saw itself falling down to a 1.8 rating for an episode that featured the return of Paget Brewster to the cast. Meanwhile, “Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders” dropped to a 1.4 in its own right.
