‘The Catch’ spoilers: Nia Vardalos of ‘My Big Fat Greek Wedding’ signs up
While “The Catch” is only one episode into its run, it is already clear that the show probably needs to be doing something in order to bring forward a ratings boost. That is why we’re rather thrilled today to have that particular something here.
According to a report from Deadline, Nia Vardalos of “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” fame (who is actually out right now promoting the sequel to the hit movie) is going to recur throughout the current season of the show as Leah Wells, a counterfeiter who has a knack for getting the job done … though at the same time she’s extremely quirky and some of her eccentricities have a tendency to get in the way from time to time.
This is not the first time that Nia has been involved in the Shonda Rhimes universe given that she previously guest-starred on “Grey’s Anatomy,” but we think this appearance is somewhat special in that it is coming right on the heels of her doing something else major. It’s a nice coup for “The Catch” to help her, but as we said we’re not sure it will improve the show’s ratings, or turn around the fact that the critical reception for the show’s first episode was not exactly great.
The biggest thing that this show has going for it is that the ratings for ABC elsewhere are pretty poor, so in the event that “The Catch” actually improves quality-wise and keeps most of its audience, there is a chance that it could come back for another go in the future.
