Ratings: ‘Chicago Fire,’ ‘Chicago Med’ surge in return; ‘Agents of SHIELD’ and ‘The Flash’ recover

For the first time in a couple of weeks now, it appears that there is a way to stop some of the metaphorical bleeding on Tuesday-night TV … and you probably have “The Voice” in part to thank for it.

The good news – It is no coincidence that we saw both “Chicago Med” (1.8 in the 18-49 demographic) and “Chicago Fire” (1.8) draw their best ratings in months Tuesday, as this marked the first time that the two programs were airing directly after “The Voice” (2.3) since the fall. These shows survive on their own, but time and time again prove to be better when they are airing following another series.

Elsewhere, there was some reason to celebrate if you are a fan of some superhero-themed programming out there. “The Flash” (1.3) had a nice bounce-back week after posting one of its worst ratings in some time, which we think for the most part was probably due to people not realizing it was on. Meanwhile, “Agents of SHIELD” (1.0) also improved slightly, though we still think ABC needs to do something to boost this show.

The bad news – There was nothing too terrible out there Tuesday, save for maybe a small decline for “New Girl” (0.9) and “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” (0.8) over on Fox. Amazingly, though, we’ve never gotten a sense that either show was in terrible danger despite these low ratings; then again, in comparison to some of the other comedies out there on the network right now (“Grandfathered,” “Cooper Barrett’s Guide to Surviving Life”) these are pretty strong.
