‘Agents of SHIELD’ season 3: Boss assures that Coulson, original team will remain focal point

Agents of SHIELD -

While there were many positive reviews stated out there for the recent season 3 premiere of Marvel’s “Agents of SHIELD,” there were also some concerns that were echoed out there. Specifically, one of the larger critiques was that the show was starting to feel more and more about the Secret Warriors than the original team of Coulson, May, Fitz, and Simmons. It is a cause for concern somewhat given that this was one of the few superhero shows out there where it felt reasonably clear that you did not need any sort of special power in order to be considered special.

With all of this recent debate in mind, one of the show’s executive producers seems to be eager to pass along now a specific message: Having the Secret Warriors is not going to change things up entirely. Here is what Maurissa Tancharoen had to say to TVLine:

“We’ve been asked that before, and it hasn’t felt like we’ve been trying to juggle two separate teams … It feels like it’s just an extension of the team that we have, a new dynamic within.”

We think that the best way to probably describe this dynamic for the most part is as a pendulum that continues to swing from one direction to the next. We’re going to have some times in which Coulson is front and center, but then some others where we are seeing Daisy and Lincoln doing more of the heavy lifting. We do think it will take a few weeks for everything to work out tonally, but we’ll get there. Patience in this case shall be a virtue.
