‘Shark Tank’ video: Will MobCraft Beer marry beverages, crowdfunding?
We admit first and foremost here that we are not the biggest beer drinker in the world. However, when we are we do tend to be a craft beer customer. It’s not the sort of thing that we have every day, so we’re not going to shell out money to get some cheap beer that just tastes like garbage.
Therefore, there is something about MobCraft Beer, as seen in the sneak peek below for Friday night’s new episode of “Shark Tank,” that we find reasonably interesting. The base idea of this is that it is a craft beer that will be produced based entirely on suggestions and pre-orders from customers. Basically, it is a way to get your own consumers invested in your product; it will be produced in small batches, and then it is gone.
While we like the concept in theory, there are a few practical concerns that cross our mind about this right away, beginning with the notion as to whether or not this is really the way to make the most money. If people are pre-ordering beers that do not win, you’re not getting those sales. Also, what happens if you really like a beer and it’s gone? It feels like there needs to be some sort of expansion beyond its simple premise unless they can really get a huge crowd of beer drinkers out there interested. Maybe this show will do that for them, but otherwise we could see the Sharks thinking they are leaving money on the table.
Also, we’re a little worried about the valuation. It’s somewhat high for the food / beverage space on this show.
