‘American Crime’ season 3: What are the renewal odds for ABC anthology?

Tonight, “American Crime” season 2 is likely going to conclude with a very emotional story, and one that brings some sort of resonance to what has at times been a trying and difficult-to-watch story. To go along with all of this, though, what you have to wonder is if there will be any further stories for executive producer John Ridley to tell.

When you look at critical acclaim, there is one thing that we know for certain: ABC loves this show. It brings them attention, and it’s sure to get at least some consideration in the Emmys this coming year. This sort of stuff does go a long way.

Unfortunately, the one thing that we’d be concerned about right now are the ratings for the show. They’re not good, and are down at least close to 20% from the first season in the 18-49 demographic. ABC has a new programming head in Channing Dungey, and while she has already renewed many of the shows that are now on the air, there are a few bubble series that have been left out. This is one of them, and it’s tough to say what she will decide.

If there is one thing working in “American Crime’s” favor, it is that it can do a completely new concept every year. The one change that we’d suggest, though, is rather simple: Come up with a new subtitle every year, or something that doesn’t just make this show sound like “American Crime Story.” That’s confusing already, even if this show was around first.
