‘Quantico’ episode 12 reaction: Is Caleb still alive?

Following the midseason premiere on “Quantico” Sunday night, we learned a few things: Alex Parrish is right once again, she’s alone once again in being right, and also that she has her work cut out for her trying to save Natalie from a bomb that is strapped to her. After one hour, it feels pretty clear that this is a show that will continue to be unafraid to make some big moves when the situation calls on them happening.

But what about Caleb? His status was one of the mysteries coming out of the midseason finale, but it was not directly addressed in the episode tonight. However, did the lack of a mention from Shelby signal that he could be alive? Speaking to TVLine in a postmortem for the episode, showrunner Josh Safran was kind enough to at least confirm that the character is still out there:

“It’s safe to say that Caleb didn’t die, but that’s not to say that Caleb wasn’t harmed.”

Safran then added that it is going to be a long time before you see Caleb in the future storyline, if at all. If that doesn’t pique your curiosity, we don’t quite know what will.

For those wondering about what the structure of the remaining episodes will be, the showrunner makes it clear that they are slowing things down a little bit with the pace:

“…We’re focusing on one or two characters at a time, not bringing the Scooby gang together so quickly or even at all. I think that really helps [with the focus]. Also with the new recruits — I don’t know why, maybe we’ve gotten better at it or we figured out how to do it — they integrate really seamlessly and it doesn’t feel like it’s off story in any way to go into their stories and relationships.”
