‘Person of Interest’ star Sarah Shahi becomes CBS’ new Nancy Drew
Here’s some casting news that completely caught us off-guard today: Sarah Shahi could be moving on from “Person of Interest” to the new adaptation of Nancy Drew on CBS.
Sources confirm that the actress, who has appeared for years as Shaw on the aforementioned series, will be the lead in “Drew,” a contemporary take on the classic mystery books from Joan Rater and Tony Phelan that will find her working as a detective for the NYPD. Given all of the changes from the source material, we’re curious as to whether or not this really has that much in common at all with it.
Here’s what is even more surprising to us. Per TVLine, this “Drew” deal for Shahi is actually in first position, meaning that if it is picked up and “Person of Interest” is renewed for a sixth season (which seems unlikely), she will stick with “Drew.” That’s rare for actors who are already on established series.
As for whether or not the odds are in “Drew’s” favor at the moment to get that series order, it’s a little early to know for sure. What it has going for it at the moment is that CBS loves mystery shows, especially ones that use the NYPD in some significant way. Just look at “Blue Bloods” or “Elementary” as examples of that. They also clearly love Shahi. Much of this could just come down to how the pilot turns out and how many shows they want to order for the new season.
