‘The Bachelor’: Ben Higgins explains sending Amanda Stanton home
Was it a surprise to see Amanda Stanton eliminated on Monday night’s episode of “The Bachelor“? We suppose that to a certain extent, the answer to this question is “yes.” She was someone who has a positive energy to her all season long, and it was easy to imagine her making it all the way to the final two. Did we ever think that she was going to win? Not really, but she had some momentum going with several group-date roses in a row.
So why did Ben Higgins opt to sent her home? In his blog over on People Magazine, he insisted that it had nothing to do with her having children, but rather that he realized that he just wasn’t in the right place in that relationship:
“Ultimately, I had to just make the call based on whom I was furthest along with at this point. But when I did that, I knew I was furthest behind with Amanda, and I was not ready to send her home. At all. And more than anyone, I didn’t want her thinking it was because of her kids or that I was afraid of being a father to them. I knew it was what I had to do, but I just felt awful about it. And I felt even worse knowing what a big step it was for her to introduce me to those two perfect little girls and knowing that this meant that I wasn’t going to see them again … my heart was in pieces thinking about it.”
There is somewhat of a fundamental flaw present here with this show when it comes to the timing of some of the dates. What we mean by this mostly is that in the case of Amanda, she was someone who only had a single one-on-one date while the other women had two. Sure, she had some time after winning some group-date roses, but the mere fact that she didn’t get singled out more before that is evidence that she was not too high on the list to begin with entering this week.
