‘Real Housewives of Atlanta’ season 8, episode 16 review: Phaedra Parks takes her kids to visit Apollo
Now that everyone seems to be friends again on “The Real Housewives of Atlanta”, we are expecting a bit of a smoother ride for the rest of the season, but this is the Real Housewives and drama likes to follow these ladies around. With that in mind, we weren’t surprised to see more of the Kenya Moore – Kim Fields feud continuing … even if it was not the primary focus of the episode.
As interesting as it was to see Kim in full director mode and to see how Kandi Burruss is moving forward with her own business ventures, this story to us was more of a saga into how Phaedra Parks decided to take her children to visit Apollo Nida in prison. It is not a choice that she made lightly, and spend a good bit of time trying to think about what was going to be the right thing for them. Eventually she opted to make the trip, and it was genuinely emotional as he talked about the right way to introduce the kids to him in this environment. She touched on politics, race, and much more as key components in the decision.
Of course, cameras were not allowed in the prison, but we did hear a little bit of the children’s reactions after the fact. It was a somewhat heartbreaking story in many ways, but the show handled it about as well as we imagine that it could have been. It was a real dose of drama in a show that is often filled with ridiculous stuff, and for that reason this episode will be memorable.
With that being said, we’re not sure that we would watch another episode like this for some time. As Phaedra said, this was a lot. Grade: B.
