Ratings: ‘Dr. Ken,’ ‘The Originals’ improve on night where ‘Amazing Race,’ other shows fall

This week has not been a great one when it comes to primetime shows getting good ratings. For the most part, there have only been a few series here and there that have pulled it off, and Friday was no exception. We’re just glad that at least a couple of shows on the night posted improvements versus the previous week.

The winners – It’s been a while since we’ve singled out “Dr. Ken,” but the comedy was up over 10% versus its previous week to a 1.1 in the 18-49 demographic. While this would not be a great rating on some other nights, here’s a little bit of a fun comparable: It’s performing better than “The Muppets,” and “Fresh Off the Boat” is not that much stronger despite airing on Tuesday nights. Given that it continues to retain almost all of its “Last Man Standing” lead-in, it’s likely to be renewed.

Elsewhere, good news for “The Originals,” as that show drew a 0.4 rating this week after falling previously to a Friday low. Hopefully, it does not adjust down in the finals.

The losers – There’s not great news to find elsewhere, as “The Amazing Race” (1.1), “Hawaii Five-0” (1.1), and “Blue Bloods” (1.3) all were down by decent margins over their most-recent episodes. The whole internet-star casting twist really is not helping to get any new viewers on board the show. It still at least has a shot at coming back.

Maybe we’re being a little mean to “Second Chance” since the show technically improved to a 0.6 rating, but a 0.6 is still bad no matter how you slice it. The show’s heading to the TV graveyard, and this time there is no reviving it.
