‘The X Factor’ UK loses Nick Grimshaw from the judging panel
When “The X Factor” premieres on ITV at some point later this year, it will be doing so without one of the judges that received plenty of attention in 2015. Nick Grimshaw has announced that he is departing the series, which means that Simon Cowell is going to have at least one hole to fill moving forward this spring.
In a statement per The Sun, a spokesperson for the Radio One host had the following message to pass along:
“After careful consideration, Nick’s decided to rule himself out as a judge on this year’s X Factor.
“He loved working on last year’s series alongside Rita, Cheryl and Simon but it was very much a once-in-a-lifetime experience. He remains a massive fan of the show and is looking forward to watching it this year.”
Maybe in some ways this was Nick getting out in front of talk that he would be dismissed from the show when the formal decisions were made … which to us would’ve been a shame, since we don’t really think he was bad at all this past season. He was engaging, passionate, and did have fun with the performances. Maybe you could say that he didn’t bring much drama to the show given his close friendship with Rita Ora, but we don’t like this show to be too brooding and serious. (We maintain that the biggest problem right now is Cowell, who doesn’t really offer anything new as a TV presence after so long with this show and on the air in general.)
As for whether or not someone else from the panel could join him out the door, Ora has already said that both “The X Factor” and “The Voice” are jockeying to have her back in the future.
