‘Top Chef’ renewed for season 14 by Bravo
While this may be some of the least-surprising news we report here at CarterMatt all week, that doesn’t make it any less true: Bravo is bringing back “Top Chef” for more news episodes.
Today, the network confirmed that they are going to have a 14th season for the culinary competition, which is currently airing a season set in California. It’s easy to say that this news comes as little surprise, given the sole fact that it’s an extremely-popular franchise for Bravo and it also delivers an upscale audience, something that any network seeks. Also, this is a centerpiece for a brand that has included a variety of other series, including “Top Chef Masters” and “Top Chef: Just Desserts” over the years.
As for how long this franchise could go, it’s in a rare position as one of the few series that has an almost-limitless run before it. We think that Padma Lakshmi and Tom Colicchio add a lot to the series, and still could be around for a long time. Not only that, but there are always new chefs who are looking to create a platform for themselves. There are other cooking shows on TV, but few offer the sort of creativity and expression that this one does. Shows like “Hell’s Kitchen” are a little less about the creativity that comes with being a chef, and a little bit more about the discipline.
New episodes of “Top Chef” will probably start airing at the end of 2016. For now, we still have the rest of “Top Chef: California” to enjoy. Let’s go ahead and celebrate that for a little while.
