CarterMatt Awards 2015 results: ‘Hannibal’ takes home Best Fanbase
2015 is turning out to be a banner year at the CarterMatt Awards for “Hannibal.” The series already won Underrated Show while Hugh Dancy took home Underrated Actor. Today, we’re hear to announce the winner for Best Fanbase, and the title obviously gives this one away.
“Hannibal” is your official Best Fanbase winner.
“Hannibal” fans hit this category hard not long after it was first announced, and they continued to do so right until the very end. “Outlander” made things competitive for much of the race, while “Supernatural” tried to make a very late push that couldn’t get a whole lot of steam behind it. “Hannibal” at the moment certainly has a lot to fight for, given that it is still looking for a new home after its cancellation over at NBC. Our hope is that in one way or another, maybe these victories will convince someone out there (whether it be a network or a streaming service) that this is a show worthy of your time and attention.
Also, it’s easy to get behind the show and be a fan of it: It’s phenomenal entertainment.
Of course, this is the sort of award where all fanbases are still victors in their own way, since it takes a lot of time and effort to support your show online. We always see all sorts of fan-wars breaking out online, but the thing we should be really grateful about is that we live in a time where so many different shows can be celebrated. The reason why there are so many great fandoms out there is because producers and networks are putting together such high-quality programming.
Congratulations again to all the Fannibals. Enjoy your victory!

Congrats to Hannibal fans! I love the show too and have watched from the beginning. Here are my thoughts on what’s happened with the show. Let’s not forget the reason the show was canceled by NBC. It simply didn’t have the audience/ratings to justify going forward for them. I think it averaged 3 million viewers or so? Not enough even for NBC. I believe that Hannibal was just too dark, edgy and graphic for broadcast TV. The acting, writing, direction was first rate, amazing even, but it really belonged on a cable network where it would have flourished without the restrictions of broadcast TV. I hope it does find a new home and on a streaming service preferably.
