‘Real Housewives of Atlanta’ season 8, episode 8 review: Kandi Burruss, Phaedra Parks, and DonJuan drama
When we left the ladies of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” The Miami trip had wrapped up and everyone was slipping back into their home lives. Miami was a mess of a trip with Tammy’s nephew getting physical and throwing her on the ground right before getting kicked out of the ladies hotel, but now that everyone is home safe and sound, we are hoping that there will be less physical fights (two already this season) and more fun drama.
Well … most of the episode was somewhat of a bore. While Phaedra had a nice moment with her son and we saw Kandi prepare to host a music-video bash following her collaboration with Demetria McKinney, most of the episode dragged its feet until DonJuan, Kandi’s business manager, got all up into some drama when he heard Phaedra speaking with Porsha Williams about a money situation she’s going through with Todd Tucker. Basically he feels he was owed more for services on a workout video, which she claims is not warranted because the product was never made. We’re not taking sides there.
While DonJuan’s blowup as a result of hearing it was really unwarranted, it at least gives us something to talk about, and as a result of this we imagine that the ice between Kandi and Phaedra is not going to be thawing as quickly as we once hoped that it would. His presence clearly showed that there are unresolved issues there.
Perhaps the biggest problem with this episode, though, is the lack of the consistent narrative. We couldn’t care less about the romantic lives of some of the Housewives, just like we were frustrated that suddenly Kim Fields just wasn’t around. Did she decide that she had enough of this nonsense and walked away?
Back when there were reports about NeNe Leakes showing up during filming later in this season some “sources” were saying that she was there to spice things up. After watching this episode, we understand where they are coming from. Episode grade: C-.
