Ratings: ‘Arrow’ season 4, ‘Supernatural’ winter finales fall; ‘Survivor,’ ‘Criminal Minds’ rise (12/9/2015)
What happens to “Arrow” when the crossover with “The Flash” is over? The ratings go down! It’s as simple as that, and we’ve now seen it time and time again. That’s just one of many things that we’re going to getting into in our ratings piece for today, but we’re going to start here with more of the good news.
The winners – Two weeks after hitting one of its lowest ratings ever for a non-recap show, “Survivor” is once again on the rise. The 2.3 rating the show drew in the 18-49 demographic proved that few people bailed on the show after Joe left (despite the threats), and that we’re still going strong so many years into this. Next to “Modern Family” (2.0), this was the #1 show on the night.
Elsewhere, “Criminal Minds” (1.9) benefited heavily from not having to go against “Empire”; Taraji P. Henson and Terence Howard did still host a holiday special for Fox, and that generated a 1.5.
The losers – It was expected that “Arrow” would lose the crossover audience, and it did going down to a 1.0 rating for its winter finale. That’s far from terrible, but we’re sure that some out there were hoping to at least see a 1.1 rating. “Supernatural” (0.7), also on The CW last night, ended up joining the show with a decline.
Also, it was a bad night for “Nashville,” as the show’s winter finale fell all the way to a 0.8. We know that the series does have its devoted fans, but we have a hard time imagining that a renewal is in its future if it continues to post these sort of ratings.
