‘The X Factor’ UK results: Jason Derulo, Sia, Lionel Richie perform
Let’s start here with Jason Derulo, who was sporting what we’d call a very different look than anything that we’ve seen from him so far in past performances in between the mohawk and a tamer version of what we’d call the James Harden beard. The song that he performed was “Want To Want Me,” one of his biggest hits out there at the moment. The vocals were at times strained, but that’s not too much of a surprise when you think about just how much the guy was moving about the stage.
Admittedly, the part of these performances we always find the most awkward is when they are over when Olly Murs and Caroline Flack try to get some sort of last-minute feedback from the singer. In the case of Jason, we felt for him because he was clearly still out of breath / sweating up a storm while trying to announce tour dates and give advice to the contestants.
Before we get to Sia, we should mention that Lionel Richie, who got to mentor the contestants, did get a little time at the start of the episode. You’ve probably heard it all before, but he’s still an icon.
As for the second song, Sia came out to perform her new single “Alive,” which we heard recently on “Saturday Night Live.” From the interpretative dance to the wig to the stage fright, we’ve really not as blown away by the art as we once were. It hurts somewhat that we don’t find this single nearly as strong as “Elastic Heart” or “Chandelier.”
