‘The Walking Dead’ season 6: Jeffrey Dean Morgan on TV vs. comic-book Negan

twd

The word “Negan” was offered up for the first time on the midseason finale of “The Walking Dead,” which is probably enough to fill many readers out there with at least some sort of sense of dread. This is a guy who is right up there with the Governor as the most dangerous character that Robert Kirkman has ever put into the comic books, and he is at the center of one of the story’s most-brutal deaths.

So who is it going to be on the show? It’s unclear, but based on what Jeffrey Dean Morgan tells TV Guide, a similar scene involving Negan’s baseball-bat-with-barbed-wire Lucille is probably coming:

“As far as I know, it’s going to be very much parallel to the comic books. If you know what’s coming, then I don’t have to tell you … I don’t mind handling a baseball bat! I feel real comfortable with Lucille in my hands, let’s say that.”

(Warning: Comic book spoilers ahead.)

In the source material, Negan is responsible for the death of Glenn, but we have a hard time imagining that the show will suddenly go back and kill him now after spending so much time dangling his fate over us. Our feeling is that the character will instead use the bat to take the life of someone else, and we could see many different people as candidates. Let’s just hope that, for the sake of drama, the show makes a big move and actually removes someone important from the equation rather than just a predictable character whose death we could get over in a short period of time.
