Ratings: ‘Elementary’ season 4 rises; ‘Mom,’ ‘2 Broke Girls’ fall on Thanksgiving (11/26/2015)
It’s never easy to air new programming on Thanksgiving, and with that in mind we have the utmost sympathy for those shows that were actually thrown on the air against a bevy of competition.
So why in the world did CBS air new episodes to begin with? The specific answer is because they have to make up for lost time somewhere. Thanks to the late start and Thursday Night Football, many of these shows are at present far behind where they need to be this year.
The winners – The biggest / most obvious one has to be “Elementary,” mostly because it rose to a 1.0 in the 18-49 demographic for its new episode, though it should be noted that this is still pretty bad. Also, there were some preemptions due to football and it could still adjust down … but a win is a win is a win for CBS at this point with this show, which has been decimated so far this season thanks to local market preemptions across the board. It’s a shame because the show has some fun moments, and it is probably as solid of entertainment as you’re going to find from a network procedural.
Also, “Life in Pieces” (2.2) improved dramatically, but we really expect that to adjust down because of when the Thanksgiving Day NFL game was ending in some markets.
The losers – Without even accounting for any adjustments, both “Mom” (1.6) and “2 Broke Girls” (1.6) are each down versus their previous installments … and having NFL bumps here and there are probably only going to make matters even worse.
