‘Code Black’: CBS orders five additional episodes of medical drama
It looks like “Code Black” is not going to be in need of a revival anytime soon. Today, CBS confirmed that they have ordered five more episodes of the Marcia Gay Harden medical series, which brings its total to eighteen on the season.
Can we say that we are even remotely surprised by this move in any way? It’s hard to be, when you consider for the most part all of the factors playing a role in it getting more of a chance to impress. The first one is consistency. While this show has never draw huge ratings, they have at least been consistent since the premiere. In this current era of ratings, there is something that can be said for just keeping the numbers that you have. We’re not sure that they guarantee a season 2, though; there are many other factors that could play into that.
One other thing that influenced this decision more than likely is the network’s upcoming schedule. There are many more dramas coming down the pipeline, including “Person of Interest” and the new “Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders.” There may have been just enough room to give this show five more episodes, and then have room for thirteen of one of the other shows. Networks tend to make these decisions with the long game in mind.
In the end, CBS is making five out of the six additional scripts that they ordered for the drama a little while back. They have long been hedging their bets in hopes of seeing what sort of series this could eventually become for them. We’re not saying that it’s a surefire winner by any means, but it at least has a little bit of life.
