‘Saturday Night Live’ preview: Elizabeth Banks joined by Disclosure, Sam Smith, and Lorde

It is a little bit of an unusual move for “Saturday Night Live” to announce their “surprise” musical guests early, but that is precisely what they are doing going into this weekend’s episode hosted by Elizabeth Banks.

What we mean by this is that the show for the most part knows, understands, and respects the rule of the cameo. Take for example when Nicki Minaj showed up for The Weeknd. Maybe some people knew about this in advance (obviously the majority of the cast and crew did), but for us it was a complete surprise. For this weekend, the series is doing something a little bit. As the promo below featuring Banks and cast member Leslie Jones reveals, both Lorde and Sam Smith are going to be joining Disclosure for individual performances.

If you are someone who follows the group’s work, then you saw this coming since the two parties are featured on some of their recent singles. If you do not follow them (i.e. if you are us), then for the most part you found this to be a big surprise. These two are both well-known enough to be musical guests in their own right, and our dream now is that Smith appears in a sketch alongside the brilliant version of him that is performed by Taran Killam.

For Lorde, this performance marks a chance for her to really break back into the spotlight after the success of singles like “Royals” and “Team.” She has gone away for a bit in America, as the majority of artists do for the purpose of working to perfect some more of their music.
