‘Once Upon a Time’ season 5 spoilers: Giancarlo Esposito returning, Greg Germann cast
The casting news for “Once Upon a Time” and the upcoming 100th episode just keeps coming. Today, the news that we’re going to start with revolves around a longtime fan favorite coming back.
As first reported by Entertainment Weekly, Giancarlo Esposito is poised to make an appearance in the upcoming 100th episode of the series (filming right now) as Sidny Glass a.k.a. the Magic Mirror. The last time we saw him was during the “Frozen” arc in the first half of season 4, and he has always fluttered around from one place to the next ever since being a major part of the first season following his famous stint on “Breaking Bad” as Gus Fring.
Of course, the question we can imagine many having right now is how the show plans on utilizing him. Given the recent announcements regarding Barbara Hershey and Robbie Kay returning, plus the news via TVLine about Greg Germann coming aboard as a mysterious character named “The Distinguished Gentleman,” the suspicion by many is that we are going to the Underworld for the rest of the season after episode #100. This would make some sense, given that Cora and Peter Pan are terrible people and would be somewhere like this after death.
As for Sidney, we know that he is not the best person in the world; however, at the same time many of his actions in season 1 were out of his unrequited love for Regina. Also, he is still alive, so the pattern doesn’t quite fit.
We know that there are still some people out there fans would love to see again; if the show wants to really blow us away, we would see a return of Jefferson (Sebastian Stan) or Sheriff Graham (Jamie Dornan), but we would be shocked if either had the time in their schedule. Also, we like to think that Graham is in the opposite of the Underworld, and even a villain in the Snow Queen (Elizabeth Mitchell) redeemed herself near the end.
