‘The Leftovers’ season 2, episode 5 preview: The ballad of Matt and Mary

Leftovers -Last week, “The Leftovers” came back to Jarden after spending a little bit of time with Nora and Mary, and gave us a further picture as to Kevin Garvey’s fractured state. Not only that, but there was more insight into just how badly Nora Durst wants to find some semblance of peace within this town, and how much the Murphy family wants to understand what happened to Evie.

Is their daughter truly missing? The sneak peek below for Sunday’s episode seems to suggest that there may be some answers, meaning that this may not be a Departure in the way that the one was at the center of the entire series. Also, this is the story of Matt Jamison and Mary, desperate to try to figure out how to make the new life that they have cultivated stick. The two of them are on the outskirts of Jarden, and are struggling to find their way back in.

The show has painted a rather-interesting picture of what life outside this city is really like. Specifically, we are talking here in terms of how there are countless tourists and other folks waiting to discover the Miracle within the town, but they cannot find a place. For those of you who want to attach a Biblical reference to the situation, think in terms of how there is no room left at the inn. Since Matt is a particularly religious character, it is fine to see his story through that lens.

Let’s hope for some more news on how these characters can move forward in this episode. Also, let’s hope for a great performance from Christopher Eccleston.
