Ratings: ‘Supergirl’ premiere soars; ‘Jane the Virgin,’ ‘Crazy Ex Girlfriend’ sink
A victory for CBS on Monday is a major loss for a network they co-own in The CW. Want to know more? Then check out our daily ratings feature for today.
Winners – You have to start here with “Supergirl,” thanks largely to the fact that it has scored the biggest premiere rating of any fall show in a 3.2 in the 18-49 demographic along with an impressive 12.94 million viewers. Granted, this has been a weak fall season, and the premieres of “How to Get Away with Murder” and “Empire” last season would’ve topped it … but good is good and CBS has to feel great about this. It’s a better premiere figure than we predicted; going into the night, we thought that the Melissa Benoist series was going to be lucky to get itself a 3.0.
Also, congratulations to “Gotham” (1.5) for actually rising more than 10% week-to-week despite airing in part against “Supergirl.” We didn’t see that coming. “The Big Bang Theory” (4.2), “Scorpion” (1.9), and “Blindspot” (2.2) also posted gains on what was a pretty impressive Monday night for TV.
Losers – The big ones are clearly “Jane the Virgin” (0.3) and “Crazy Ex Girlfriend” (0.2), which may be the biggest flop The CW has had in a couple of years now. It’s a shame given that most people who watch the series seem to enjoy it, but we cannot imagine that this show stays on the schedule until the spring. With the critical acclaim for “Jane the Virgin,” we don’t see it getting canceled; instead, the network may find a way to put a shot before it to boost its ratings.
