ABC’s ‘Scandal’ season 5, episode 5 preview: David advises Fitz on possible impeachment

Take another look -

We definitely know that Fitz is in some trouble on Thursday night’s new episode of “Scandal,” but how deep is he in? This is something that the latest sneak peek below from Thursday’s episode tries to answer in some shape or form.

David makes it pretty clear to Tony Goldwyn’s character that now is the time for him to stop beating around the bush and avoiding how serious some of the charges are. The issue here is if he broke the law courtesy of his affair with Olivia; rather, it is whether or not Congress thinks he did. They are the judge, jury, and executioner in this position, and it’s something that people do understandably forget about. Impeachment is something that happens so rarely in American history, it’s not something that people in government spend a whole lot of time thinking about.

Ultimately, Fitz and his team make the decision that they should be making more of an effort here, which then brings them to their next primary order of business: Making sure that they hire a lawyer. David tells them a name, and while it is not the one that most in Washington would apparently go with, it is the one that he feels will do the best job of getting them to accomplish precisely what they need in this moment.

Will we see a hearing happen in this episode? We don’t quite know that yet, but with Mellie on a warpath, the President needs to take every precaution possible in order to ensure that the rest of his reign does not turn into a circus.
