‘MasterChef’ season 6, episode 18 preview: Claudia, Stephen, Derrick, and Nick battle it out

Is this the most competitive final four in the history of “MasterChef“? We always hesitate to use such a label, if for no other reason than that you get some hyped-up in the moment of the season, and it sometimes can be difficult to go back and retrace how you felt about certain other groups back when they were competing for the title.

What we will say with certainty going into Wednesday night’s new episode of the show on Fox is that this is one of the most likable groups that we’ve seen at this point. We wouldn’t consider anyone in this group a villain; maybe Stephen can be a little terrifying some times, but we think of him more as a mad scientist rather than someone who is ever trashing his fellow contestants (which we have seen in the past from other people). He’s just intense, and so is Derrick. Nick and Claudia are more straightforward hero characters.

The first part of the episode Wednesday is going to be a team challenge, which is interest because it is Stephen and Derrick against Nick and Claudia, and two of them will be spared from having to cook for their lives in this competition.

If we had to predict who is going to go home next, we’d say Nick just because he is probably the least-developed of the four contestants left. However, at the same time we could see that being just the result of some editing trickery; we’re going to get a lot from him the rest of the season is he lasts, so why does it matter?
