‘Sherlock’ season 4: Martin Freeman grateful for shorter seasons
We know that “Sherlock” is an extremely popular show. More than that, we know that it is a show that people want so much more of than what the BBC traditionally gives them. For example, it has already been well over a year and a half since season 3, and the only thing to tide you over until season 4 is a special, which will likely air at Christmas. It is possible that it could be late 2016 or early 2017 before season 4 actually airs.
We’ve argued over the years that as frustrating as the schedule may be, it is in many ways worth it. This is something that is appealing to the cast, since they can go and do other things, only to return here later when they feel like they are reading. It keeps them from every wanting to leave, which is great since Martin Freeman and Benedict Cumberbatch are so famous now that they really don’t have to do this anymore.
This is something that Martin Freeman himself commented on in his recent appearance as the Edinburgh TV Festival recently; take a look at some of his comments below, courtesy of the Radio Times:
“I’m not in charge of the show. But I am kind of glad we don’t do it all of the time because I have a very low boredom threshold. I really do. I want to do other things. What starts off as a real pleasure and feels like playtime would feel like ‘Oh God’ for me … I didn’t go into this world as a replacement for a proper job. I like the unknown. I like not knowing what I am doing next. I think this is an adventure. I am like, I am not working for six weeks let’s try and get something on. If it were nine months of [filming] Sherlock, the first month would be great and the next eight would be ‘Oh, Christ…really?’”
