‘Wayward Pines’ finale reaction: What did you think of that big twist?
Fox has hyped “Wayward Pines” up as a great event series, and tonight they really tried to live up to all of the chatter with an eventful last episode that should, at least pending any changes, close the door on this story.
What’s interesting is that this felt to us both closed-ended and open-ended at the same time. The definitive parts of the story to use are clear: Ethan is now dead, deciding to go out a hero to save the lives of others. Meanwhile, David is also gone. Two of the most integral characters of the first season are clearly no longer a part of the world, and that to us means that you can close the door on the show.
However, at the same time you had that twist at the end where it revealed that Jason and many of the First Generation are now leading the town, and three years have passed. Why include this unless you wanted there to at least be some thought paid to the future of the series? Maybe we are just meant to sit around and think about what Wayward Pines could be; it’s not like every feature film ends in a way that is completely all tied up, either. We’re not a book reader, but we know that there are many changes between this and what happened ultimately in the source material.
For the most part, we are just glad that this is a show that Fox took a chance on in the first place, given that event shows are still being played around with as a concept, and this is not one that was that well-known to the mainstream before it first came on.

You are right the two most memorable characters are gone & mostly all that is left is the 1st generation which is not enough to make a Season 2. Didn’t like the way it ended but also do not want to see it continue. Without Matt Dillon continuing I wouldn’t even be interested in watching it anymore.
