‘Game of Thrones’ alum Jack Gleeson returns to performing for new play

Joffrey -Back when Jack Gleeson decided to depart from “Game of Thrones” after several seasons on the show,  most of the early reports and indications were that he really did not have that much of an interest in being a performer for the time being. To a certain extent, it was hard to really blame him when you think about it. This is a guy who played one of the most-loathed characters on TV for years, and because it was the only role in which he was known for, he quickly found himself in that terrible position where everyone started to associate him with the person that he played.

Gleeson always seemed like a smart, creative guy, so we’re not too surprised that he has found an interesting wait to return to perform … while still preserving his own interests. In a new interview (a rare one for the publicity-shy actor) with the London Standard, he explained that he is working now with his friends at a theater company (who he met at Trinity College Dublin) on a puppet-theater performance project entitled “Bears in Space.” He is now bringing the project to the Soho Theater.

We found this interview fascinating in how Gleeson admitted that he had offers to work in blockbuster action movies, but he turned them down in order to find something he could be much more passionate about:

“My real interest is in creating something from the ground up. I never say never to anything, but for the time being I get far more fulfilment from being part of a project that I have helped create and have more of a stake in.”
