‘Modern Family’ season 7 spoilers: Show aging up Jay and Gloria’s son
“Modern Family” is not a show that avoids recasting, at least when it comes to some of its younger actors.
Many years ago, the show drew some headlines when they decided to recast the character of Lily, Cam and Mitchell’s adopted daughter played by twins Ella and Jaden Hiller. Aubrey Anderson-Emmons eventually assumed that role, and it ended up being a great choice given that she ended up bringing a great deal of fun and personality to that character. She’s now considered at least to many a fan favorite among some of the kids. Now, the show is doing something reasonably similar to Jay and Gloria’s son Joe. According to TVLine, the series is looking to replace Pierce Wallace with a young actor to play the four-year old version of this character, someone who is the opposite in many ways of Gloria’s son Manny. This would create even more personality conflicts in their house, and with that of course comes craziness and hopefully humor.
There’s always a chance when you introduce new characters, especially children, that there is a Cousin Oliver effect and someone will come in and be incredibly irritating. We don’t think that is going to be the case here, mostly because we’re going to give the benefit of the doubt to a show that has scored countless Emmy victories over the past five years. They have figured something great out courtesy of their casting process.
“Modern Family” will start filming in the not-too-distant future. Therefore, we hope to have even more updates to share on this in due time.
For now, though, do you think that this is the right move, or a somewhat-reckless mistake? Share right now with a comment.
