‘Devious Maids’ star Rosalyn Sanchez scraps Miss USA involvement after Donald Trump comments

Miss USA -The fallout from Donald Trump’s recent comments about Mexico and Mexican-Americans continues to cause problems for one of his biggest entertainment properties: The 2015 Miss USA Pageant, of which he is a co-cowner. (Yes, we know that it does provide more of a role than that, but commercially it is an event and a television program.)

Around the same time that Univision decided that they would no longer air a Spanish-language version of the pageant later this summer, “Devious Maids” actress Rosalyn Sanchez has announced that she will not co-host a Spanish-language simulcast as originally planned. It is not entirely clear if she would have anyway without Univision involved, but her comments in a statement are still worth noting:

“I was very excited and proud to have been invited to participate in Miss USA, but as a Latina, that is now inconceivable … Although I am not Mexican, I am Puerto Rican and a proud Latina, and his comments were an insult to our culture. I won’t sponsor anything produced by Donald Trump.”

Meanwhile, her fellow co-host Cristian de la Fuente has also dropped out, and J Balvin has also decided to no longer perform at the event, even though it would have been his first major TV performance in the United States.

As with most major news stories of this variety, we still feel like the fallout from this is at present far from over. We would not be particularly shocked to see some other people involved with the pageant drop out, and what will be mostly interesting to see is what happens with the contestants. While we do not have specific background information on every contestant, we do know that there are several who are of Latino heritage. If some of them were to suddenly drop out, it may blow this story even more out of the water.

We’ll have more news as it breaks, but head over here for more via Univision. Also, sign up here in the event you want some additional TV news on all we cover, sent right to you via our CarterMatt Newsletter. (Photo: NBC.)
