ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 8 spoilers: Latest scoop on Nathan Fillion’s Rick
Over the past week or so, we’ve kept ourselves rather busy with a variety of “Castle” speculation, with the vast majority of it geared around a simple subject: The arrival of newcomer Hayley. There is no actress attached to the role yet, but she will be a major part of the season and one of the ways that the show compensates for losing Penny Johnson Jerald (Captain Gates) as series regular.
Yesterday, we posted a variety of different possibilities for what this Hayley character could be up to in the new season, and also who she would potentially be working with. At the top of our list of speculation included that she could be a security detail for Beckett, a new addition to the NYPD, or secretly a villain in disguise. We cannot offer up anything too firm at the moment, though we can at least say via TVLine that she will spend a ton of time working together with Nathan Fillion early on in the same.
With this knowledge, the top theory has to automatically mean now that Hayley is Rick’s new partner on the force, though it’s also possible that he could feel the need to hire a new bodyguard-of-sorts given what has happened to him over the past year. Beckett could end up getting a promotion to Captain at the precinct, or make the decision to enter politics. Either way, there are many reasons why her role could change on the show.
We imagine that we will get some more answers in regards to this whole mystery soon enough, especially in terms of why will be playing the part.

Hate it. Hasnt worked yet the few times they have tried to separate Rick and Kate’s working and personal relationships. Why will it work this time?

What if Castle wants to expand his his literary horizons. Why couldn’t Hayley provide inspiration for a new character for him to write about?

Like many other shows this one tries out new characters from time to time. As the showrunners find that the fans don’t want to see them because they take time away from the on screen interaction of Katic and Fillion which is the reason 99% of the audience tunes in, the new characters are never heard from again.

Sounds like she’s not someone who’ll appear on a weekly basis, so could that make her as regular as Lanie. If so what’s the big deal. Winter/Hawley are coming in with a fairly clean sheet, as long as they don’t go down the soap opera angst driven gravel road they should be ok. If not then this will really be the final season.

The Captains role is mainly administrative therefore it doesn’t show many opportunities to develop Beckett’s role and Stana has said she is excited about how the character is to be developed, splitting Castle And Beckett doesn’t look a very good option as they both still spark off one another. Politics doesn’t look to be much of an option as this is going to take the action away from the 12th Precinct. I thinkit is going tobe acase of just wait and see. I agree with Buddy that any roles that over shadow Caskett will probabably see me saying good bye to one of my favourite series.

I must mention that Beckett was very reluctant to sign her contract for season 8 because she could not see the further development of the Beckett character. She then talked to the new show runners and said that she was excited over the future planned development of her character. To remain as only a detective would not result in any development of her character. She wants to move onward and upward and should.

All that I have heard since the announcement of the new Hayley character is that she will be a fractional character. That is that she will not appear in every episode. Consequently it is very difficult to see her as a major character in season 8 or imagine her spending a “ton” of time with Castle. It has also been often mentioned that the new tech person will have an important part in season 8. How many “important parts can there be? You are trying to make it seem that Castle, Beckett, Ryan, Espo, Martha and Alexis will have their roles much diluted in importance. Have you given any serious thought to what you are saying? Any new roles that overshadow those of Castle and Beckett and you can count me as a previous viewer.

Hayley should be the captain with Kate helping her out from time to time, it won’t work if castle follows Hayley around and not Kate, as the whole show was based on Kate being castles muse and inspiration for nikki heat series.

Disagree entirely. Beckett is the most qualified and deserving captain candidate in New York and she should get the position if she decides to take it. We do not know why Hayley left the LAPD. With her “crossing the line” too often she might have been dismissed making her undesirable for the position. She might have left to establish her security company and make more money. Accordingly she would not want the captain position. Give up on your position that Beckett should stay as she is it just will not happen with Beckett seeing her career taking off with great possibilities for doing really important work.

It’s not only about qualification when it’s a tv show! Though, yeah if they are bringing a new captain it would probably be somebody older, but still, Beckett being a captain means less Castle and Beckett, especially their banter, and that doesn’t work that good.
