Starz greenlights ‘American Gods’ adaptation; ‘Hannibal’s’ Bryan Fuller to be co-showrunner
Just in case you were not already satisfied with one Bryan Fuller show on the air in “Hannibal,” how about another? Today Starz announced that they have greenlit a series order for “American Gods,” an adaptation of the famed work of author Neil Gaiman. Fuller will be the co-showrunner of the project alongside Michael Green. There’s no current release date for the project, but we anticipate it as a possibility for 2016.
Obviously, this is going to be a very ambitious show, one featuring battles between complicated forms of mythology and stuffed with interesting characters. This is a beloved book, and there will obviously be many a book fan who are immediately concerned about whether or not a TV show can do it justice. The only consolation we can offer for now is that Gaiman is set to be an executive producer on the series, so he will at least be able to be involved in some capacity. Plus, Starz has earned some credit thanks to “Outlander.”
Here is what Fuller had to say about being a part of this new show in a statement:
“Almost 15 years ago, Neil Gaiman filled a toy box with gods and magic and we are thrilled to finally crack it open and play. We’re grateful to have Starz above us and FremantleMedia at our backs as we appease the gods, American or otherwise.”
There is still plenty of time to go until this show premieres. Therefore, we imagine that in due time, we will be able to say a whole lot more about casting and the like. Stay tuned.
